this is part 1 of a series of pride paintings i am working on. i get so tired of hearing the religious right talk about how gays are
sexual deviates that are corrupting america.  gays have always been a part of this society.  it is very hard for me to stay calm
when someone tells me i don't deserve the same rights they have.  i don't deserve the same rights?!?!?!?!?! gays have
fought alongside everyone else for those rights that so many get to take for granted.  what some call rights, i see as privilege.
the following is for those who think that homosexuals don't deserve equal rights: when you get to walk hand in hand with your
partner at a country music concert and don't see people staring at you, when you get to go to work daily and openly talk
about your partner without fear of being fired for it, and you get to marry someone just to have it annulled the next day, AND
you get a fucking tax break for that marriage, and you get to vote no to my right to marry,
please  remember that somewhere
in every battle and war this country has ever fought, there was a homosexual fighting for the same rights you have today and
try to deny me.  we are not the deviates of the nation, but members of society that have given lives for freedoms we so deeply
believe in. we are
not the downfall of this country, but part of its backbone.
